Video stuff

The studio has been off limits since the holidays due to building work, so during this downtime, ive found myself making experimenting more with video and moving image. I have found this is becoming a very important part of my practice, and that it informs and in some cases complements my painting.

Anyway follow the My Vimeo link to see some of the stuff. I would be happy to recieve any feedback.

discussion at ICA London, 11/10

Why do artists continue to paint? Does painting have an intrinsic value? In the lead up to Bloomberg New Contemporaries 2010 at the ICA, Bruce McLean, Vanessa Jackson, Margarita Gluzberg and Mark Leckey take part in this discussion, considering the current state of painting today. Chaired by ICA curator David Thorp.

Thank god for the Holidays!

It's been a troubling few weeks. I find myself trying to pin down why I paint, what I paint and why I paint it. This is on top of a prolonged period of thinking that I have no ability what so ever.

The work seemed to be getting worse, with everything I tried making things worse, though looking back at the last few months work , I see progress has indeed been made.

Things haven't been made easier by the builders moving into the studio, starting expansion work that was supposed to be finished in the summer!

I found myself at a complete stand still for the last 3-4 weeks, although in the last week I have started a new work with a new approach.

I never thought I'd say it, but I welcome the christmas hols. A couple of weeks away from the studio is what I need, hopefully I can get lots of drawings done, and return with a large source of research.

I'll discuss the work in detail in later posts, adding images to illustrate.

Welcome

Hi, I am a 2nd year Fine Art degree student, with a bias toward painting.

I aim to use this blog as a Journal to collate my thoughts and progress with my work.

This is not a private blog, and welcome participation from other contemporary painters and/or anyone with a keen interest on the subject.
